Another barrage of twisters focused on the South closed out a record March for tornado numbers.
73 tornadoes have been confirmed from the several-day outbreak. Part wind event, the focus of a primarily QLCS type system was March 30, when 60-plus tornadoes focused their fury on Mississippi and Alabama.
In total there were 169 tornado warnings, 12 tornado watches, and two EF3s.
The first EF3 of the outbreak occurred March 30 and tracked from Johnson to Springdale Arkansas — 5.2 miles in total. A gymnasium at an elementary school was destroyed, and there were 7 injuries.
A deadly second EF3 of the outbreak happened March 31. It tracked 12 miles from east of Wausau to south-southeast of Cottondale Florida. The two deaths were near Alford, where two homes were reported destroyed.
Among many weak tornadoes in the event, an EF0 in Tysons Corner, Virginia, was caught on video. It was the first March tornado in the area since 2011.
