Top U.S. tornado videos of 2020

It’s our ninth annual installment of top twister videos. 2020 was a storm of a year, although maybe less from a storm point of view than an everything else point of view.

A year with few memorable tornadoes in the main chase region of the Plains, it started hot and that’s never great news for folks in the South. The 78 tornado deaths is the most in any year since the horrific 2011.

All years: 2022 | 2021 | 2020 | 2019 | 2018 | 2017 | 2016 | 2015 | 2014 | 2013 | 2012

After April, the hunt was harder than usual … but there were diamonds in the rough.

On the same day, there was an unusual large tornado that ran through parts of the Black Hills.

Dalton, Minnesota – July 8

This was probably the tornado of the year in the United States (not to be confused with this one in Canada). Several other views were also great.

Divernon, Illinois – July 15
Andrew Pritchard

Armenia, New York – August 2
Dave Lewison and Scott McPartland

Another cool video of this storm showing more of the structure from a drone.

Cape May, New Jersey – August 4

Spicer, Minnesota – August 14

Hollywood, Florida – August 19

Miller, South Dakota – August 30

Note: It has been pointed out that this video likely shows an RV thrown by the tornado in the first minute. The occupant of that vehicle perished.
