Chasecation 2015 Day 9 – Time for some northern Plains action

We spent today traveling north to Nebraska to position ourselves for the next week of storm chasing, which looks to be mostly in the northern half of the Plains.

We also decided to hit up the open house for the PECAN (Plains Elevated Convection At Night) research project, which was hosted at the Hays, KS airport this afternoon. There, you could ask the researchers questions about their instruments and the project, and tour all of the different vehicles, including the University of Wyoming King Air that will be flying around storms throughout the data gathering period. Basically every piece of modern storm research equipment was on hand to look at.

Since there were no storm pictures from today, here’s a shelf cloud over the northern Texas Panhandle from May 28th that had a nice clam shell appearance to it.
