Chasecation 2013 Day 14 – Stayed south, stayed safe

…Posted just after midnight June 1…

With all of the craziness that went on today, I forgot to write the post on time! Everything seemed lined up as far as the parameters for getting tornadoes around Oklahoma City, and our worst fears were realized when we saw the hook echo on radar swallowing up chaser icons on Spotter Network just west of the city. Knowing that this disaster scenario was a possibility, we staged further south away from the OKC metro.

The more southern storm did not do much besides hail, but I think we made the right decision today by avoiding the OKC metro. No tornado is worth that kind of risk.

We start the trek back east in the morning as the pattern does not look favorable enough for us to justify staying out here for another week.

Our thoughts are with those impacted by today’s storms. I may touch on this a bit more later, but for now it’s probably better for me to just go to bed and sleep on it.
