Tornado Weekly: May 6-12, 2012

Map of the week's tornado reports to SPC. Image compiled by Mark Ellinwood.

The week of May 6 was a relative breeze when it comes to tornadoes across the United States. The main weather maker of the week was the southern jet stream. A significant disturbance along it created a localized tornado event in south Texas on the 10th. There were plenty of water spouts too.

Tornadoes were reported on six days and in six different states. On two days the reports were made up of water spouts that crossed onto land as tornadoes. The event in south Texas on the 10th was the most significant by far, with tornado warnings flying much of the day there, though by all indications these tornadoes were largely weak and brief.
